What Bismillah Eats Does
Bismillah Eats helps Muslims in Chicago discover halal dining options - both restaurants where all the food is halal and "hidden halal" restaurants where specific dishes are halal. The app shows restaurant listings, lets you save favorites, and lets the community submit and report on halal spots. The app is published by APPRODUCTIONS LLC, an Illinois limited liability company ("we", "us").
Halal Status Disclaimer
Bismillah Eats is not a halal certification body, and a listing in the app is not a halal certification. Halal statuses shown in the app ("Fully Halal", "Hidden Halal") reflect our own research-based verification: certifications displayed or reported by restaurants, supplier and menu research, community reports, and direct confirmation with restaurants. They represent our best understanding at the time of verification.
We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of any halal certification organization. Where a restaurant reports holding a certification, we may display that claim as reported to us. Restaurant menus, suppliers, kitchens, and ownership can change at any time, and a status that was accurate when verified may become outdated. Each listing shows how and when its status was determined. If you observe strict requirements, please confirm directly with the restaurant before ordering. All information in the app is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, and your dining decisions remain your own responsibility.
Information We Collect
- Location. Your approximate or precise location while the app is open, used to show restaurants near you. Coordinates are used transiently to run the nearby search and are never stored against your identity. Never collected in the background. You can deny location access and still use the app with a city-wide view.
- Account information (optional). If you sign in: your email address, or an Apple-generated private relay address if you use Sign in with Apple. Used only to operate your account and sync favorites. Guest use requires no account.
- Favorites. Restaurants you save, stored against your account so they sync across devices.
- Submissions and reports. Restaurant details you submit (name, address, halal information, notes), optional supporting evidence (a link or a screenshot - screenshots are stripped of metadata and stored privately), and reports of incorrect information. Submissions are reviewed by a human and independently verified before anything is published.
- AI feature queries. If you use the meal-finding feature, the text of your request is processed by our server and passed to an AI provider to generate suggestions. Queries are length-capped and are not used to train AI models.
- Purchase history. If you subscribe, your subscription status is managed by Apple and RevenueCat. We never see your payment details.
Information We Do Not Collect
- No analytics, crash-reporting, or behavioral tracking SDKs
- No advertising identifiers and no tracking across other apps or websites
- No contacts, photos library access beyond images you explicitly attach, microphone, or health data
- We do not sell or rent any personal data to anyone
How Your Data Is Stored
Data is stored with Supabase, encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Per-user data such as favorites and submissions is protected by row-level security, meaning only your authenticated account can read or modify your rows.

Data Retention and Deletion
- Guest users: nothing is stored on our servers; preferences stay on your device.
- Signed-in users: your account and favorites are retained until you delete your account.
- Delete your account in the app: Profile → Account → Delete Account. This permanently removes your account and favorites from our servers. You can also email us and we will complete deletion within 14 days.
- Submissions: approved submissions become part of the public restaurant listing in anonymized form (the listing never shows who submitted it).
Children's Privacy
Bismillah Eats is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
